The Shropshire Mammoths are perhaps the most famous part of the Museum Service geology collections and Ludlow Museum Resource Centre is now home to these fossils.
Found in 1986, at a quarry at Condover, the remains of an adult male mammoth and three juveniles are one of the most important geological finds in Britain during the last 100 years.
Apart from being amongst the most complete mammoths ever found in Britain they are also the youngest at only 12,700 years old. Their fragile condition means that they need to be kept in constantly controlled environmental conditions within a climate controlled srore and cases when on display.
