The Historical Society
The Bridgnorth and District Historical Society was founded in January 1934 to advance the education of the public in all matters of historical or allied nature, and in particular matters arising in Bridgnorth and within the County of Shropshire.
In 1945, Bridgnorth Borough Council offered the use of Northgate to the Bridgnorth and District Historical Society, on the condition that they set up and maintain a museum for the townspeople of Bridgnorth to which admittance would be free. The museum was first set up as part of the town's Festival of Britain celebrations in 1951, following requests to the people of Bridgnorth for exhibits.
