This is a list of the tenants of the Bruyn family in the mid 15th Century; it includes Overton and Pickthorn. It shows 5 individuals owning land at Pickthorn and 3 at Overton. John Burnell was granted a lease of the manor of Pickthorn in 1446 for 31 years. Margaret Sawnd[ers] was probably a relation of William Saunders, who lived at or near Pickthorn in 1417. The “yard lands” mentioned in the lease were nominally 30 acres so in theory these tenants had about 300 acres. The true figure would be much less than that. To pay a chief rent, Margaret would have been a freeholder; the others must have held their lands by leases. It is interesting that at this date there was still a small area of woodland associated with Pickthorn.
