The C241 and C131 series in the National Archives contains details of medieval court actions brought for recovery of debts. These shed light on the business dealings of merchants and landowners from c1300 to c1500. Abstracts of these are available on-line via the National Archives website; this was prepared by Dr Pamela Nightingale, with ESRC funding. Here, details of individuals connected with the Stottesdon Hundred have been taken from the on-line catalogue. Each entry gives the date when the debt was first incurred, the catalogue reference, the details of the parties involved and the amount of the debt and finally the officials who dealt with the court proceedings.
