Meetings and events organized by the Shropshire Archaeological and Historical Society
Winter Programme 2011-2
Field meetings in the summer, under expert leadership, are made to archaeological sites, including excavations in progress, historic houses, churches and museums etc, both within the county and in adjacent areas.
Winter meetings are held once a month, normally on the second Saturday. Local researchers and nationally known archaeologists and historians give lectures on local and more-than-local topics.
EXTRA: Saturday March17th 2012
There will be an extra field trip on Saturday 17th March to Upton Cressett Hall. We will have a tour around the house, which includes a 14th century great hall and a fine 16th century brick gatehouse. We will also explore the church, which has extensive work from the Norman period and there will be presentations on the history of the area by Dr Roger White and Jonathan Roberts. Meet 2.00pm outside the hall.

Saturday March 10th 2012 CAUS CASTLE
A guided tour of the remains of the medieval castle and borough, led by Dr Andrew Wigley, Shropshire Council’s Historic Environment Countryside Advisor. Meet at 2.15pm at Westbury Village Hall carpark (NGR SJ 357 092) to concentrate cars.

The first meeting in the summer of 2012 will be on Saturday 12th May 2012 when David Pannett will lead a tour of the parish of Bicton. Details in the New Year.
