Pam Freeman, Project Officer for the Records and Memories of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry project, interviewed over 50 veterans of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry and other Shropshire Regiments. Here are a few of the memories from the veterans.
Second World War veterans
Here Alan Poulter and David Humphreys recollect time spent at a local training camp during the Second War War. This was at the Maltings, in Shrewsbury.
Alan Poulter, born 1926, served as a Private with the King's Shropshire Light Infantry from 1948-1950.
David Humphreys, born 1918, served as a Private with the King's Shropshire Light Infantry from 1939-1946.

On the battlefield
Joe Whelan, 1921-2008, served as Acting Lance Corporal with the King's Shropshire Light Infantry and was in Hubert Folie, France, when he was wounded by a shell. Here he recounts how his friends saved his life. Joe was to live another 64 years due to the actions of his fellow soldiers, and he remained friends with these particular men all his life.

Witnessing reprisals during the war
Bill Jones, born 1921, served as a Sergeant with 4KSLI. As his regiment moved through France he visited the village of Vimy, near the infamous Vimy Ridge. Here he witnessed women, suspected of being collaborators with the enemy, suffering reprisals from their fellow compatriots by having their heads shaven.
