Pam Freeman, Project Officer for the Records and Memories of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry project, interviewed over 50 veterans of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry and other Shropshire Regiments. Here are a few of the memories from the veterans.
National Service in the 1950s
Here several of the veterans of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry recall being called up for National Services in the 1950s.
Pam Freeman asks them about how they felt. The first veteran to speak is Leslie Birch, from Oswestry. He served with his twin brother with the KSLI. The next speaker is Michael Devereux, from Hereford, talking with his friend Michael John Williams about their National Service.

National Service in Korea
John Yeoward, born 1932, served as Lieutenant with 1KSLI, and did his National Service from 1950-1956. In 1952 he was sent to Korea. Here he recalls travelling to a Prisoner of War camp in Korea, on the island of Koje. He was part of a group of British soldiers that were going to look after thousands of prisoners. In this short audio recording he recollects going to a "hush-hush" destination.

John Yeoward was nineteen years old at a time when he found himself with a small group of men, responsible for looking after over 3,000 prisoners of war. Here he recalls one night on his own with a few army cooks trying to deter a break out by the prisoners.
